Textual analysis of the Gumming scene from Drag Me To Hell

This is a wide shot and arguably an establish shot this is because it shows that the woman is now in a car park. This shot is interesting as she is not central therefore she leaves a lot of room this shows the audience her isolation and vulnerability in the scene.

As you can see the woman is wearing a Blazer this tells us that she has an office job and might be high up in her company. Her Facial expressions shows that she has had a hard day at work.
This Pan shows the woman looking around the car park this shows that she is worried, and after a long day at work she wont hesitate to go home.

Half of the car is in the shadow so you cant see if anyone is in it, the reason the car is shown is to show the audience that the woman is wondering if their is someone in the car. This makes the audience a on their toes as they don't know if a scary event will happen, Also the lighting is very dark which indicates that something bad might happen, it gives the audience a chilling feeling about the place.

This shot is a close up, but again she inst in the center reminding the audience of the characters vulnerability.

The Actors facial expressions shows her thoughts and feeling about the car in the last shot, she is extremely worried and  she doesn't really know what to do so the best thing would be to carry on and go home as fast as possible. On the right side of the shot the wall is mostly covered in a shadow ,this suggests that the shadow is getting close to her which gives us a hint that something bad will happen later on in the scene.

The next shot there is another pan, from the point of view of our main character, as their is another pan shows she is quite paranoid. It also reminds us that there is nothing between these cars so she is still vulnerable.

There is more shadow in this shot which leads back to my idea that the shadows are emerging to her, which suggests that she will have no-where to run .

This shot is a medium close up showing the actors face again. Again she inst directly in the center this is because they want to remind to the audience that she is vulnerable and innocent, this also makes the audience look at all of the extra space used in the shot, it shows the audience that there is a lot space a predator can lurk in.

Again her facial expressions are vital to show what she is thinking and she is still worried and paranoid but its building up this makes the audience feels sorry for this character as they can predict that something bad is about to happen.

This is the same shot but it shows her looking back this obviously means that she is really scared now as she thinks that someone might be following her. This is also crucial for the big scare as us the audience will be the same.

This is a Point of view and a wide shot showing the character getting closer to the car this will give the audience a sense a hope that she will be safe.

This is a medium close up just showing the main characters emotions again this is vital to the audience will keep their sympathy and emotions for her, again the main focus.

As you can see by the facial expressions she is still scared and probably just want to go home straight away and escape any chance of danger.

This is a medium close up shop shoot nof the car this indicates that the woman is gradually getting closer to the car this might relief some of the audience as they think she is safe.

Once again there is a another pan/point of view shot showing the woman looking back at the car this shows that she is still worried about the car.

This is a medium close up of the woman's face again this used continuously to make the audience scared as they think something bad is going to happen to her

You can tell from her facial expression that she is starting to break down from fright, this will make the audience feel more sympathetic for the character.

This is a wide shot showing the woman with her car, the wide shot again shows all of the free space behind which creates tension as she is isolated so if she does get attacked no one will hear or see her.

The woman getting the keys out shows that t is her car, her facial expression looks like she is  relieved that she is at her car and nothing bad has happen.

This turns out to be another dolly shot as its following the character it makes it look like that someone is either watching her or following her.

The dolly shot enables the audience to see her emotions break down this either makers the audience feel more sympathetic as they know that something bad will happen, or they will feel happy for her as there is no longer a problem.

Once again she looks back just to ensure that everything is safe. This is a medium close up shot.

The actors performance make it looks like she is still a bit worried but no longer "loosing it".

There is another wide shot of the car this is just showing what the woman is watching.

The wind blowing creates a chilling feeling for the audience.

Here is another medium close up showing the woman reaction and know she is freaked out again.

This is a close up showing the woman opening her car.

The shake of her hands shows how scared she is scared and just wants to go home.

This is a medium close shot just showing her reactions and now her emotions are spiraling all over the place. This will make the audience scared and feel sorry for her.

This is a close up showing what is in the tray.

As you can see its a lot of office stuff which could mean two stuff, she is doing work at home or she could of got fired/quit.

Horror is such a great genre to excite people and ourselves as its quite youthful.

Form: An opening scene to the film

Location: Pentagon because its the closest car park to us and it suits our vision of how we imagine the scene. its also quite spacious

Time:4-9pm because that's when the weather gets dark and that's when less people are in the location selected so it makes it easier to film without interruptions which will result in complete focus. This is also when the car park lights are on.

Characters: Dead guy as Jake
                  Masked Guy as James
                  Lady as Emma

Plot Outline: The story is about an ex boyfriend who is seeking revenge on his ex girlfriend because she sent him to jail. Throughout the film people are looking for the both of them. At the end she is found but only a piece of her is found

  •  A lady is going to retrieve her car from the car park after a long day of work.
  • She starts walking and every time she walks the light turns off.
  •  Suddenly, she starts to hear other footsteps apart from hers.
  • She starts to look back while texting and her pace starts to quicken.
  • She walks to her car door and her phone makes a sound so she starts to look for it as she looks for it, the camera goes to the back of her car where a body is suddenly lying there.
  • She then proceeds into unlocking her door as her car is opening there is a man with a mask sitting there face against the window she then sits down and as she turns the engine on
  • There is a very loud scream, that leads to the name of the film.

Editing will be used to make all the different shots/ scenes come together. it will also be used to put the credits in and music. sound will be used because the opening of the film needs sound to be understood and create make the audience feel scared . Target audience: 16 and Over

Audience appeal: We are making this an 16 and over movie because they are one of the best markets to target a horror movie towards. They are very interested in scary movies usually to watch with a partner or friends. The films will interest this market audience because its about a relationship which is something that is a part of their lifestyle  . The film may be too horrific for younger viewers.

Influential films: Films that have influenced our scene plan are 'The Woman In Black' 'Attack The Block' and the trailer of 'The Boy'. These movies interested us and we were actually scared from the clips we had seen. All these contributed to creating out original idea.

Unique selling point :This is a British Film which will make the expectation high as the British film industry currently hold a good reputation in the horror genre. This would also make it relate able so the realism of the story will make it more entertaining to watch
