Form and Conventions of Print Text

A form of Media is about what it is, e.g a film or television show.

Media Conventions are the ways of creating meaning in a form for example  the text or picture.

The form of this media is a poster to advertise the film "PIRANHA". The picture gives us an imagery of what will happen in the film: the piranha's will eat everyone. The style of art which is used makes the advertisement of the film look old which tells us that this film is old. The woman on top of the water can foreshadow tat in the film there will be a "Damsel in Distress" The feature of the Piranha is over exaggerated which can symbolize its deadlines. The female will attract a big male audience as men like to see a "fit" girl in a horror movie. " Least River Lake was a thriving resort until they discover" the verb "was" emphasis  the fact that the piranha will do something bad.

The form of this media is a magazine front cover. The colors of the front cover is very vibrant and girly which will attract a female audience. The title "heat" suggests tension between two people as it creates "heat". This magazine is clearly made for women as it informs the reader about weight loss- and women are very self conscious so they would want to read about stuff like this. The hearts attracts the female audience. The company uses "perfect" pictures of the celebrities to make the readers more self-conscious and they'll be tempted to read the "weight loss" article. The company also concentrates on some of the biggest stars during that time period which will have a lot of fans therefore the fans would buy this magazine to read about their favorite celebrities.

The form of this media is a CD front cover. The guy in the picture is holding a treasure chest and he is looking into it it like there is treasure in it, this can foreshadow that the CD is treasure. The background is very random as there is a miniature house on the chest of draws. The guy is dressed simplistically which can tell us that the genre of music is very simple like Reggae. The box is red which stands out straight away, this could be because he wants us to read the description of his CD. The name of the band/artist is in a large font this makes it easier for us to spot the CD if we were looking for it. The album is called " One plus One is One" which highlight how simple the album is. The repetition of "One" could be a secret meaning, saying that this is the "one" album you need to listen to

The type of media is a comic. Instantly it catches your eye as there is  a lot of colors, but the colors are very bland sit is aimed at older children e.g. teens. Also there is a lot of writing which emphasis' the fact that this is not meant for kids. The writing is all in capitals letters which makes it stand out for the reader. Some of the words are in bold, theses words are meant to be emphasized so it gives you a more clear image of what in your head. The man shooting people is obviously the villein in this story. The civilians on the second frame are dark which suggests they are in pain.

This type of media is an advert. The text is bold , black and all in capitals which catches the readers eyes. It says " For A Demo Break The Glass" this is symbolism that the hoover is as strong as a vacuum, as if you break  a window in a aeroplane it would create a very powerful vacuum. This add is very simple which makes it very effective. The picture is in a plane to gives us a sense of imagery of what would happen if your in a plane and the glass broke.

The type of media for this is a book cover. The first thing you notice is the text as it stands out. They refer to " The girl with the dragon tattoo" to draw in fans of that film/book. They also use a quote from a news paper company to make people think that this book is good. There is a picture of a young girl staring at you, the shadow brings emphasis on his eyes which are staring this can suggest that the book is a horror or thriller. The picture also shows the a dragon tattoo which will suggests that this is a sequel to the book. " The Girl who kicked the Hornets' Nest" suggests that the girl is rebellious and maybe an "anti-hero" type character.

Stars and Representation

 Chris Pratt:

Chris Pratt is an American TV and Film actor. He is 36 years old and is known from his television role: Including Bright Abbot in Everwood and Andy Drwyer in Parks and Recreation.

I chose picture from Delivery man as Chris is portrayed as an Lawyer you can see this by what he is wearing and the background of the picture. The presence of Chris makes him look smart and very logical. In the picture it looks like he is talking to the judge.

The second image of Chris is alot more recent as you can see he has lost weight to suit the role of Owen which ends up saving the world. In this picture instantly you can see he is in a more serious role from his facial expression. He is represented to be a rebel in this picture as he is wearing the an leather waste coat and the first two buttons on his shirt is un-buttoned, unlike the image above where he is seen to be very smart.

This image is from the sitcom he used to be in Parks and recreation, in this picture he is seen to be more of an older person with a growing beard and a long sleeved chequered shirt. his facial expression shows that his character isn't very serious but instead more of an comedy character. The background and the apron shows that he is a family man and he is cooking dinner for his family.

My forth image of Chris Pratt is from the Marvell Film Guardians of the Galaxy, judging by the brow leather jacket and stubble Chris looks more like a rebel. The background suggests more of a futuristic theme with the green light and the blue computer. The red frame work suggest he is in some sort of building.

My last image of Chris Pratt is from the film Wanted. In this picture it goes back to his smart self as he is wearing a tie and a long sleeved shirt. The background  suggests he works in an office. His facial expression suggests that this role is very short tempered compared to all of the other pictures.
